The Consulate of the Czech Republic in Malta was established on the 8th May 1995, following the closure of the Czechoslovak embassy in Malta in December 1993

Since than, the Consulate has promoted Czech - Maltese relations through various initiatives and activities. The Consulate was instrumental in the re-establishment of the Czech-Maltese Friendship Society, which was recently re-named Czech Compatriots Society and organizes various activities bringing together the Czech and even Slovak nationals residing in Malta and Gozo.

Various other activities include the Czech Cultural Weeks, exhibitions, commercial and political exchange visits both by politicians and entrepreneurs from both countries. The Consulate supports the programme of the Embassy of the Czech Republic in Rome with its Political, Cultural, Commercial and Consular requirements in Malta.

The Consulate in Malta offers the services of legalisation of documents, passport applications and renewals and assists and serves as a point of reference to Czech Nationals who might find themselves in difficulty whilst visiting or residing in Malta.

The Honorary Consul General, Tonio Casapinta was awarded the "Gratias Agit" Award by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic for his services to the Czech Republic.

The Consular post was elevated to Consulate General in 2009


Short CV

In life, Tonio Casapinta is the Chairman of Casapinta Design Group Ltd a company which he founded in 1985 and which specialises in the Design and Contracting services for Conferences and Exhibitions both in Malta and overseas.

Tonio Casapinta is also one of the founder members and currently holds the position of Vice Dean, of the Honorary Consular Corps of Malta and has served on various national boards included that of the Malta Chamber of Commerce, Enterprise and Industry, Malta Esthetics Board, The Society of Arts, Manufacture and Commerce and the Malta Trade Fairs Corporation.

Tonio is a member of the Maltese Association of the Order of Malta (SMOM) and was awarded the Cross of Commander of the Order "Pro Merit Melitansea" in 2010.
