Matthew E. Sullivan was appointed Honorary Consul of the Republic of Korea in February, 2013 following the retirement of his father John E. Sullivan as Honorary Consul – General who had served in this position since December 1991.
The Republic of Korea has been represented in Malta by members of the Sullivan family since November 1968 when Carmelo E. Sullivan [now the late] – the grandfather of the present incumbent – was appointed Honorary Consul – General until his retirement in December, 1991. In May 1988, Mr. Carmelo E. Sullivan was honoured to receive the Order of Diplomatic Service Merit, HEUNG – IN Medal, from H. E. ROH Tae Woo, President if the Republic of Korea at that time. The Activities of the Honorary Consulate General in Malta of the Republic of
Korea include:

  • Promoting bilateral relations between the respective Countries in commercial, cultural and economic activities;
  • Providing assistance as and when required to Korean Nationals visiting Malta and to Maltese and other Nationals wishing to visit Korea or wishing to establish lines of communication between the two Countries;
  • Authentication of Documents;
  • Providing advise to Korean and Maltese Nationals on Visas, Passports and other consular responsibilities;
  • Assisting the general public to obtain information on Korea or on Korean Companies and other Korean Organisations and Entities;
  • Keeping abreast on matters relating to Korea through the Embassy of the Republic of Korea for Malta, resident in Rome.

Matthew E. Sullivan comes from a finance background being a Certified Charted Accountant and having worked with PricewaterhouseCoopers for 15 Years, of which 6 in the Italian office in Milan. Today Matthew heads the Corporate and Finance division of Sullivan Shipping Agencies Limited, a family owned business involved in Ship Agency and Logistic Solutions. Matthew sits on the Council for the Association of Ship Agents and Malta Employers Association.
