The Commonwealth of The Bahamas is situated in the Atlantic Ocean north of Cuba and southeast of Florida USA. It is a member of the Caribbean community and is one of the most prosperous countries of the West Indies. The capital is Nassau on the island of New Providence and the official language is English. It is made up of around 2000 isalnds, cays and islets The beauty of its sea, its beaches and rich marine life combined with the friendlness of the Bahamian people have made of the Bahamas, a major international tourist destination .

The Bahamas gained its independence from Great Britain in 1973 and is a Parliamentary Democracy under Constitutional monarchy with a Governor General representing Queen Elizabeth II. The economy of the Bahamas is based on Tourism and Offshore Finance including International Banking and Ship Regustration. It is a member of CariCom, an organisation that brings Caribbean countries together on a broad spectrum of initiatives and is also a member of The Commonwealth of Nations. Its politics and legal traditions follow those of the United Kingdom and the Westminster system.

The Bahamian Consulate was established in November 2014 and its main purpose is to foster and enhance friendly relations between the two countries/peoples, as well as to develop, promote and encourage commercial, economic, cultural, educational and scientific activities between them . It also aims to protect the interests of Bahamian nationals in Malta, whilst supplying all necessary information and assistance to prospective travellers and investors alike.

Short CV

Hilda Ellul-Mercer graduated B.A. (Socio Legal Studies) and Legal Procurator L.P. in 1993. and is in private practice. Hilda has served both as member and Vice President of the Chamber of Legal Procurators and is a member on a board within the Commission for the administratiion of Justice . Hilda studied French at the University of Grenoble, a language which she speaks fluently together with a number of other languages.
